When To Go

Chiquimula is hot and sweaty more or less all year round but even more so in the summer months when here can also be flash rains storms. In mid-August there is the departmental Feria del Transito – the Transport Fair – with horse parades, carnival parades, food stalls and games. May time there is a new festival celebrating the ‘tamal’ – the importance of tamales to the Chapines should not be underrated! The locals here also support the January saint’s celebrations in nearby Esquipulas.
