Hidden amongst the hanging vines and lush vegetation, Casa Perico is quite a discovery. Accessible only boat, 10 minutes from the dusty town of Rio Dulce, Casa Perico is a remote jungle retreat for the weary traveler. Accommodations include dorms, private rooms and even a personal cabana with a private washroom. All rooms come equipped with a much appreciated mosquito net and are authentically rustic, yet clean. Constructed on stilts, everything hovers above marshy ground, with each separate building connected by a wooden walkway.

The main thatched bungalow not only acts as the reception area, but also the restaurant and bar. Along with refreshing beverages, the restaurant offers entertainment in the form of cards, board games and a book exchange.

While individual meals are available, the nightly buffet is excellent value and boasts a wide variety of both local and international cuisine.

Everything operates on a trust system with the final bill presented upon checkout. Optional day tours to the town of Livingston or hot waterfalls of Finca Paraiso can be easily arranged, while personal exploration of Lago de Izabal is made possible through the use of the free kayaks.
