The hustlers in Livingston can be a bit dodgy, so be aware once you get off the boat you may be bombarded with people asking you if you need taxis or accommodations. These men merely escort you to a hotel and then demand the owner pays them a fee, so it is better to just find accommodations on your own—or book in advance, if possible. Also be wary of anyone who strikes up conversation with you on the street—you may also be asked to pay up front for tours or even if you can “lend” money to a local, which are obvious scams. Furthermore, Livingston is used as a bridge for northbound drug traffic, so it is best to stay away from sticky situations.
