In Puerto Barrios there isn’t a specific bus terminal so all the buses leave from around the market. Litega Pullman buses (www.litega.com), for stops along the Carretera al Atántico, leave from 6a Avenida between 9a and 10a Calles. Over 20 buses a day go to Guatemala City every half hour between midnight and 4p.m., taking five - six hours. First class direct costs Q80, snack included. Second class costs Q50 and makes stops, including Morales. Around the market: for buses to Chiquimula and Esquipulas go the south-western corner of the market; for Honduras go to the west side; for RÃo Dulce you can take any bus along the highway CA-9 and change at the La Ruidosa junction.
Public lanchas leave from the dock 'el muelle' at the end of 12a Avenida. To LÃvingston boats leave about every 40 minutes but they often wait until they are full, which can be a little frustrating. These private boats cost Q30/$4 and take 30 minutes. The slower public ‘ferry’ takes triple the time, is slightly cheaper and leave once in the morning and once in the evening. Check at the dock for the up to date schedule. If you want to charter a private boat it will cost about Q250. For Punta Gorda in Belize there is only one lancha in the morning, for around Q250/$20 and takes one hour 30 minutes. Remember to clear immigration, for a $10 fee, at the office on 12a Avenida between, the dock and Hotel Europa.
