Restaurants in the oriente and along the Atlantic Coast of Guatemala range from low budget hot dog stands to elegant beach-side marinas. Taco stands intermingle with more modern, air-conditioned eateries, but almost all have a casual atmosphere and are relatively cheap. If you are looking for international cuisine, just about every town has its very own Chinese restaurant and it is common for fancier establishments to serve spaghetti. If you are looking to taste some authentic Guatemalan food (which you should!), be sure to try pepián, a meat dish smothered in rich tomato gravy.
