Flores is a good starting point for your exploration of Petén, and the jumping-off point for Guatemala's greatest tourist attraction, the ruins of Tikal. But once you've seen Tikal, then what? There is much more to see and do before you leave Petén.
There are other ruins, if you haven't yet had your fill. Check out El Mirador, which is remote but very impressive. There are also many hikes and good opportunities to see wildlife in the area.
There is even more than one way to see Tikal. Most tours go during the daytime, but a true ruins buff will want to book the sunset tour, the sunrise tour, or both.
In Flores, you can take a tour in a small boat on the lake, rent a canoe at La Villa Del Chef ($4/hour) or go swimming. If you have more time, visit the zoo or go to visit the Arcas center.
