Sunrise Tour of Tikal

Ruin, Cultural Tour, Hiking

By Will Gray

This tour begins at the ugly hour of 4.30am and the guide leads you by torchlight (bring your own) past a few interesting spots for information and up to Temple IV, which you climb in the early dawn with the stars still shining above. You then sit there for around two hours while the mists rise and the sun comes up but the guide offers little in the way of stimulation during this wait.

If the sunrise is good, it is worth it, but much of the time it is simply mist rising and looks like an overcast dawn so you may be better off taking an early day tour. There is a small walk after sunrise detailing information on several areas of the side and it depends significantly on the guide you take as to how much you will get out of it.
