Los Amigos Hostel offers an open, traveler-centered environment that allows backpackers used to very basic accommodations a sigh of relief. Dorms start at $3.50, a great deal in a moderately priced city. The dorms themselves feature cupboards where you can lock your bags, comfortable beds, and an enough open space to keep the rooms cool despite the heat and humidity common in the Peten region. The common area is wonderful…filled with multi-colored hammocks, couches, tables, and often tons of other travelers, Los Amigos is a great place to kick back. You can enjoy a drink or a cinnamon banana smoothie until around 11 p.m., when the management will kindly ask you to take your fiesta down the street so that others can sleep. The hostel also has a giant selection of documentary films to watch or burn onto a CD, which is wonderful for backpackers who are recovering from one of the many treks in the area.
