Getting Around

The easiest way to travel between Sayaxché and its surrounding Mayan sites is most certainly by boat along the Río de la Pasión and its tributaries. A combination of taking the local bus to a point and then hiking the rest of the way is also an option, and is usually cheaper. However, it generally takes much longer and is a more difficult journey in the end. An organized trip through an operator with a guide is the most popular choice and there are several operators to be found in the town and down by the docks. Some boat owners will offer to take you on a round trip to a specific site and will also act as a guide for a reasonable fee. Usually a roundtrip starts from around $45 for the first person and an additional $3-5 for each person thereafter.
