The Peten, the northernmost region of Guatemala, is home to many Mayan ruins and dense jungles. It is also one of the least inhabited regions of Guatemala, and lodging is hard to come by unless you´re looking in the main tourist hubs, Flores or Santa Elena. Most travelers prefer Flores, which has a better selection of hotels and more things to do.
El Peten hotels come with an assortment in sizes, prices and accoutrements. For as little as US$2.00 a night, you can find a place to stay, but you get what you pay for. El Peten hostels are harder to come by, the only true hostel is the Hostel Los Amigos in Flores, which offers US$3.50 rooms and a great atmosphere for backpackers.
On the other end of the spectrum lies Hotel del Patio Tikal (US$65-80.00), a higher-end hotel with close proximity to the lake, as well as a courtyard pool, jacuzzi and international breakfast.
