These complexes are found one kilometer away from the Gran Plaza via the isolated Maudslay Causeway; all of them are late-Classic twin pyramid complexes that are erected to honor the end of a katun. These complexes are composed of two identical pyramids on the east and west sides of the plaza. In the north lies a roofless chamber containing a portrait of the ruler, while in the south is a palace with nine doors, associated with the nine levels of the underworld. Complexes P and M are found at the far end of Tikal. A huge carved stela lies nearby. Clearly depicting the capture of a foreign ruler by Tikal鈥檚 King Yik鈥檌n Chaan K鈥檃wil, the stela dates back to 8 December AD 748. Complex Q is found 300m south, and is mostly restored, giving a clearer picture of its original exterior. Note that tour groups seldom visit this area, but more wildlife can also be spotted here. Frequent visitors include the keel-billed toucan and collared ara莽ari.
