Built atop a hill overlooking Cobán, the temple is 137 steps away from the city center. At the start of the long stairway, visitors are greeted by a shrine where locals pray and leave offerings. Many Q’eqchi religious rituals are also held at altars of the temple. Dating back to 1810, its simple white façade has been restored to its original glory. Candle light illuminates the interior of the church, where a glass crucifix enclosing a figure of Jesus Christ stands. During Holy week, processions reach the top to the church. Get a panoramic view of the city and its surrounding greenery from the church’s entrance.
