Getting around

The town of Cobán is small enough to get around by foot. To get out of town, the cheapest and most efficient local transport is the microbus. Most journeys on these mini-vans do not cost more than $1. Last buses usually leave from nearby villages at 6 p.m. to return to Cobán. Be prepared for a squeeze as they usually try to fit in as many passengers as possible. There are plenty of yellow-topped cabs in town, with many concentrated around Parque Central and along 1a Avenida, Zona 1. A taxi ride around town costs between $2.50 and $3.75. To book a cab in advance, call (502) 5058-4577. For car rentals, there are a few agencies in town that have 4WDs for hire. Check out Tabirini (7a Avenida 2-21, Zona ; Tel: (502) 7952-1504) or Inque Renta autos (3a Avenida 1-18, Zona 4; Tel: (502) 79521431).
