To the west of Salamá along a scenic road is the colonial town of Rabinal, famous for pottery and citrus harvest. Founded in 1537 by Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas, Rabinal adheres to many pre-Columbian traditions. Market day in Rabinal is Sunday, but the best time to visit is during the annual fiesta of San Pedro, at the end of January. Corpus Cristi is another festive time to stop by. Rabinal also has a colonial-era baroque church and a small museum that is of interest, especially if you are interested in learning about the massacres that happened here during Guatemala's civil war.

Other places nearby Rabinal: Purulhá and the Corredor Biológico del Bosque Nuboso, Salamá, Parque Nacional Laguna Lachuá, Playa Grande, Sierra De Las Minas Biosphere Reserve , Cobán, San Jerónimo, Parque Nacional Cuevas de Candelaria, Biotopo De Quetzal and San Rafael Chilascó.
