Iglesia del Calvario - Historical Building Salamá - Guatemala

The neo-classical Calvario church, built in 1899 on the site of an ancient Mayan cemetery, is reached by a climb up 120 steps. It houses a Señor de Esquipulas or Black Christ, which is celebrated on January 15. If you climb up the narrow ladder (with no safeguards) to the left of the entrance, you can crawl into the bell niche and catch a view of the city.

Location:
End of the 5a avenida, zona 4, up the hill.
Salamá, Guatemala
