The 16th-century colonial church sits just on the parque central and its pretty baroque façade looks best at the end of the afternoon, as the rays of the setting sun hit it. Inside, there are a dozen massive rococo carved altarpieces, among the best preserved in the country. Also check out the statue of the friar holding a broom, on the right of the aisle, and the blue cupola painted with stars. The first bishop of the Verapaz, Fray Pedro de Angulo, was buried here in 1625.
