If you follow the paths leading from behind the Calvario up the Cerro de la Cruz for 30 to 45 minutes, you will reach the mirador atop the mountain, at 1260m, and from there, be offered a 180-degrees view of the valley of Salamá. There is a small chapel and cross there, and May 3 sees celebrations of the dÃa de la Cruz, with folkloric dances and marimba music. If you are lucky, you might also watch (from a distance) a Mayan Achi’ rite performed with burning of candles, incense and sweets.
