It is safe to walk around most parts of Salamá until about 8 p.m.; as in any other part of Guatemala, just be careful with your personal possessions and don’t flaunt expensive objects. If you visit during the feria in September, keep your wits about, because of the drinking and risks of brawls. If you want to hike up to Cerro de la Cruz, go as a group and never alone.
