If you are driving or with a private tour group make sure you stop off at El Mirador, just before Km 280 north of Chiantla. Winding up the steep road cut into the cliffside, there are some unbeatable views back across the valley with Huehuetenango far away below and the Cuchumatanes mountain range across the other side. On a clear day you can see the conical shape of the Volán Santa MarÃa, part of the chain of volcanoes to the south of Quetzaltenango. It is after this point that you notice the scenery beginning to change, often with cloud mist in the air and even snow on the peaks.
Other neighborhoods in Huehuetenango: Nentón, Laguna Magdelena, Aguacatán, Unicornio Azul, Chiantla, Gracias A Dios and Barillas.
