Almolonga

Almolonga is a small agricultural town located just 5km southeast of Quetzaltenango. This pleasant town produces lots of the region’s fresh vegetables and holds a busy market on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Thanks to its well irrigated location in the base of the valley, it cultivates some of the finest produce you’ll lay your eyes on while in Guatemala. There isn’t much else to see in the town and so it isn’t a very popular place to stay in or stop for a meal. However, there are two churches, Iglesia de San Pedro’s bright yellow and blue façade is one of the more unusual that you will see and the more frequented Iglesia Evangélica El Calvario sports a massive modern auditorium and outdoor speakers. The annual Festival de San Pedro y San Pablo is celebrated from the 27th until the 29th of June.

Other neighborhoods in Quetzaltenango : Fuentes Georginas, San Francisco El Alto, Zunil, Laguna Chicabal, Las Cumbres, Los Vahos, Zona 3 Quetzaltenango, Totonicapán, Salcajá and El Palmar Viejo.
