Situated about 3.5km from the Parque Centroamérica are the modest sauna/steam baths of Los Vahos. If you are interested in a hike out of Quetzaltenango, then this is great option. Walking, the journey from town can take about 2 to 3 hours and is mostly uphill, but the views of the city behind you get better and better. The steam baths themselves are two very simple stone rooms but occasionally the vents are lined with eucalyptus leaves, creating a magnificent herbal scent. Another way of getting there is to take a bus in the direction of Almolonga and ask the driver to drop you off at the road to Los Vahos. From there it’s a steep walk of about 2.3km. Alternatively you can take a taxi from Quetzaltenango which usually costs around $25 for a round trip including waiting time.
