Like most Guatemalan cities, Xela is built around a Central Park. The Parque Centroamérica gives a European feel with the presence of Greek columns. On the south side, stands La Casa de la Cultura and the Museo de Historia Natural. On the eastern end of the Parque is the original façade of the Iglesia del Espiritu Santo which was built in 1535 by the Bishop Francisco Marroquin. This is the only remain of the orginial church which was severely damaged in the earthquake of 1902. A new church was erected behind the façade. The Municipalidad (City Hall) was reconstructed too after 1902 in grand neoclassical style. On the west side is Pasaje Enrique, a pedestrian and commercial arcade, home to several bars and restaurants.
