Y'abal Handicraft Shop sells handwoven bags, fabrics, scarves and other products made by local women's weaving communities. Preserving the traditional back strap loom techniques practiced by indigenous women in this region for centuries, Y'abal Handicrafts provides technical training and fair trade wages for these cooperatives so they can eventually become self-sustaining. By purchasing one of the colorful artisan goods, which incorporate geometric patterns and cultural symbols, you directly support these efforts and contribute to better the lives of rural Guatemalan women. Y'abal also takes volunteers; contact the organization for more information on opportunities.
