Situated northeast from the Cuatro Caminos Junction and through 30 km of pine forests, lies the department capital of Totonicapán, known locally as Toto. This modest town is known for producing some of Guatemala’s finest crafts, particularly textiles and wooden toys and carvings. A large market is held on a Saturday and is certainly worth a visit. For those who want to stay the night, there are a few accommodations and dining options in the town. Hospedaje San Miguel and Hotel Totonicapán are comfortable and La Hacienda serves decent regional dishes. The town also celebrates several festivals throughout the year, including the Feria de San Miguel Arcángel from the 24th-30th of September and the Fiesta de las Danzas on the last Sunday of June.
