Unfortunately for the shoestring traveler, San Pedro's budget options are absolutely abysmal. The city's only backpacker hostel is scandalously overpriced, with dorms on offer for double the price of a private room elsewhere. The city does contain several decent budget and mid-range hotels, but these are all located within the relatively unsafe downtown center.
