Hostel

By Will Gray

Right in the heart of the action, this seems to be the place to stay in town. Rooms, all with clean bathrooms, are very smart, decorated with traditional bedspreads and offer plenty of space. The bar and restaurant out front can feel awkward to use as a hostel area without making a purchase, although there is a pleasant courtyard surrounded by the rooms and another small communal area upstairs.

Getting There:
Down the hill two blocks west of southern end of Parque

Higher:$14

I never stayed in the hostel because I was living with a family across the road. I ate here several times, though, and hung out with friends every other night for a month last year. The staff is really funny and relaxed, the food is better than I thought it'd be, and the cuba libre flows like wine. It's a little contrived, Europeanized, and almost no locals come. Still, it's a blast for someone who maybe hasn't traveled in a Spanish-speaking country before, or if he/she only wants to stay a few days.
