High season for tourists in Copan is between mid-June and mid-August, though this has more to do with North American summer holidays than anything to do with the town itself.
The city's annual festival is usually held in mid-March, which can be a good time to take in local culture. Be warned however that violence spikes during this week-long party, and there were a few murders during the 2008 festivities, though foreigners are generally not targeted.
Copan hosts interesting Semana Santa celebrations, for visitors seeking a less touristy alternative to Antigua. The city also has an annual German-themed Octoberfest.
