If you're looking to pick up everyday items, Calle de la Plaza west of Parque Central has a number of shops that sell everything from flip-flops to belts to machetes. The Municipal Market is a good bet, though the smaller tiendas across the street will offer better prices.

For necklaces, bracelets and other handmade jewelry, check out the outdoor market on Avenida Centroamericana just south of the square. Local craftsmen and wandering hippies set up small tables to peddle their wares. About halfway down the street, just outside of Xibalba, you can buy handrolled cigars from a weathered gentleman in a cowboy hat.

For other souvenirs, such as leatherwear or carvings, check out the Artesanal Market on Calle Independencia, a cluster of open stalls offering the usual tourist goods.
