By Mike Karanicolas

A range of different private bus companies operate in San Pedro Sula, plying a labyrinth of different routes around the city. Despite a concerted effort, Viva's writer was unable to find a regular schedule or an easy way of understanding the system. Ask the driver if he's heading to your destination after you get on, before you pay your 5 L.

Taxis are also plentiful, and most destinations within the city shouldn't cost you more than 40-60 L. As a general guide, expect to bargain 10-20 L off of whatever price you're first quoted.

Getting to the airport should cost around 160 L by taxi from downtown. It's also possible to bus it, but expect to be let off at least a 20 minute walk from the airport itself. Considering the scorching heat, we recommend a taxi as the better option.
