Hiking and Birdwatching - Birdwatching Roatán - Honduras

Learn about the history of Roatan Island as you step back in time. First, explore a cave explaining the history of the islands' rich heritage (at one time British, French and Dutch pirates and buccaneers fought the Spanish galleons for the possession of the islands).

Afterward, step out of the cave and into a beautiful tropical botanical garden with many native trees, including the Gumbolimbo tree. As you follow the path through lush gardens you reach a hanging bridge over falls and a stream. You may see a flock of resident scarlet macaws fly right overhead as you're crossing the bridge. The bridge leads you to the bird park with yellow Amazon parrots native only to the islands, red-lored, mealy, toucans, parakeets and more macaws, including the hyacinth, blue and gold macaw.

Take the road to West End Bay, turn off at arrow to Gumbalimba Park and Gardens.
