This dive shop is affiliated with Cross Creek. Between the two they are by far the largest operation on the island. Although they receive consistently good reviews from their students, they have been criticized for having a factory-atmosphere. Their dive courses also are the most expensive, even though they offer less for more than their cheaper competition. Finally, though their accommodations at Mango Inn are quite nice, the dorms are a solid 20 minute walk from the actual dive shop. When you're scheduled for a 7 a.m. dive, you'll realize why location is important.

Last June, I learned to scuba dive with Utila Dive Center & the Mango Inn Hotel. I had one of the best experience of my life. They have a great package to offer, in my opinion the best value in Utila. The hotel is safe, clean and with a pool and a restaurant, a very nice tropical ambiance. They have new gear and good boats. I think they have been rated a few times the best dive shop in Honduras. My instructor was Ana. She was very professional and fun. I must say that she made me feel very safe, as i was very nervous at first. But after our first underwater experience at the dive center pier, I felt very excited. And after the four-day PADI course, I was able to enjoy every dive. We saw a lot of fish and coral, a ray with spots and a turtle. There were six students in my group, and we all had a great time. The staff made us feel safe at all time. They also were very aware of conservation of the reef. Ana and three dive masters were with us on every dive, keeping us away from the fragile coral and correcting our buoyancy, always communicating their passion for diving. I will never forget this experience, Utila and The Utila Dive Center staff. Mark Soefer
