While the vast bulk of Utila's visitors are entirely consumed by diving during the days and drinking during the nights, the island does have more to offer. In addition to the hiking, kayaking and beach lounging listed below, Viva wholeheartedly recommends attending “Adam's Fish Talk,” held at Alton's every Thursday evening. Adam, a hilariously soused English ichthyologist, delivers a side-splitting performance, explaining and often imitating the characteristics of many of the fish you'll see on your dives.
The island also has a language school located on the Main Street if you want to study Spanish. Viva's reviewer particularly enjoyed a flyer passed out during his stay encouraging visitors to register for their upcoming “Spanish Pogrom.”
