Utila
Many backpackers cite a visit to the island of Utila as the highlight of their Honduran experience. And with good reason – the place is positively enchanting. Between the gorgeous beaches, the fantastic water sports and the laid-back Caribbean vibe, Utila provides an addictive lifestyle. This island is rife with stories of travelers that came for a week and ended up staying for years. No matter how tight your schedule is, we'll wager dollars to donuts it takes you at least a few tries to get away.
The least developed of the main Bay Islands, Utila is one of the cheapest diving destinations in the world. Although it has only one road and one town, it has more than 50 dive sites and plenty of shops to keep prices competitive. The north coast has some of the best dive sites with spectacular drop-offs, canyons, caves, colorful reefs and more.
