Cultural Tour

By Will Gray

While the paintings may disappoint (they are impressive, but don't believe the stunning enhanced photographs in the magazines!) this is still a good trip and a good way to get out into the desert. Santa Marta requires a 4km walk to reach the caves but offers the best preserved paintings, although many are still fairly faint. San Francisco is said to have the better scenery. A trip to either, however, will get you right in amongst the cacti.
