As home to the Great Pyramid and an associated archeological site, Cholula has long been a tourist magnet. Fans of religious history can check out some of the America´s oldest monuments to God, such as El Convento de San Gabriel, or in the villages of Acatepec and Tonatzintla- the latter´s church displays a unique baroque/indigenous style. Historians also claim that the zócalo´s portales are amongst the worlds oldest; they date back to 1593. Nowadays, they shelter a row of pleasant cafés and are a popular spot to sit and absorb Mexican pueblo life.
