When To Go

Like neighbouring Puebla, Cholula has a mild climate all year round, but be sure to bring warm clothes for winter evenings. While the local version is no match for the wild festivities of Veracruz or Mazatlan, the Carnaval de San Pedro Cholula (around 14 February) is good fun: there´s always plenty of noise and people dancing in the street wearing masks. Quetzalcoatl´s Ritual (the weekend around 21st March) is a traditional reconstruction of pre-Hispanic dance, poetry, lighting and music. The Feria Milenaria (1-16 September) is the Cholultecas´ most important celebration, a bizarre mix of religious festivities and trading rituals.
