Cuernavaca Things to See and Do

Cuernavaca is a city that is very popular with visitors. Day trippers from Mexico City flood Cuernavaca on weekends, and foreigners can be found there year-round soaking up the climate and learning Spanish at the numerous Spanish schools. These facts, combined with the long history of the town, make for lots of things to see and do while in town.

What's worth a visit? It depends on your interests.

  • Shopping in Cuernavaca isn't as good as elsewhere, but there are a couple of souvenir markets.
  • The Cortes Palace is probably the top draw in town, being centrally located and tough to miss.
  • The Borda Gardens are an oasis of tranquility in the city center and occasionally host art and cultural exhibits.
  • There are several day trips worth taking from Cuernavaca.
  • The Tren Turistico (tourist tram) is a good place to start to see some of the highlights.
  • There are two central squares in downtown Cuernavaca, a half block from one another. They're full of vendors and are colorful and worth a visit.

Be sure to try out some of the excellent food in Cuernavaca while you're in town.
