Shopping Summary - Shopping Puebla - Mexico

Mole poblano is the city鈥檚 most famous product, and tubs of the chocolatey paste are sold around the touristy Mercado Parian which also flogs mass-produced Mexican tat at inflated prices. A cheaper option is to head to either Mercado Venustiano Carranza (11 Sur and 4 Poniente), or Mercado 5 de Mayo (16 Poniente and 5 Norte). Azulejos, (glazed blue pottery), is another local creation and the best place for buying it is the Instituto Poblano de las Artesanias (Avenida Juan de Palefox y Mendoza 607). A government-run project, it represents over 16 types of crafts made by local artisans using anything from glass, wax, or textiles, to paper and coffee beans. Well-off tourists will find exquisite one-off pieces to tart up their homes, or there are plenty of local potions and oddities under $5 for budget travelers.

Arte Facto, on 3 Oriente 603 is the best of many hippie shops in this student area. They sell handmade jewelery for $2-$4, and novelty souvenirs such as dolls of famous Mexicans as well as poblano marble floor fittings.
