Location:
Mexico D.F., Mexico
Adventure Tour, Park
These two giant volcanoes, the second and third highest mountains in Mexico, are just a couple of hours outside the city and offer some breathtaking walks in an environment more like Switzerland than Mexico. Popcacatépetl is active and continues to smoke from its icy cone but Iztaccíhuatl is safe and there are a few poorly marked but reasonably clear walking trails in the area around La Joya car park. It is not easy to get there but the beautiful area makes a very refreshing change from the bustle of the city. Amecameca is also a pleasant town with a unique and very funky church.
Getting There
SE of city, take Volcanoes bus from TAPO station to Amecameca then taxi or guide.
