Ruin
This impressive ruin site can be done easily in one day from Mexico City and is one of the country's cultural highlights. Dating from the days of the Mayas, this was home to the Teotihuacán people and has been impressively preserved to this day. Two gigantic pyramids - including the world's third largest, the Pyramid of the Sun - are the centrepieces but there is plenty of interest around the site and it is well worth taking a guide to get the most out of it. Hidden away are colourful ancient murals, hidden temples and even an ancient shower room but the view from the Pyramid of the Moon is worth the trip alone.
