Nightlife in La Alameda

The Centro Historico isn’t well known as one of Mexico City’s main nightlife areas. Hardcore party people would be best heading off to the Zona Rosa or Condesa if a huge selection of bars and genres is what you’re after. However there are definitely places to go to dance until dawn, neck tequila whilst imaging you’re Pancho Villa, or absorb the tamer delights of traditional Mexican dancing. The gorgeous Bellas Artes on Parque Alameda is the place to go to see the Ballet Folklórico, a choreographed show of Mexican dance, which although a bit manufactured (and expensive) is nonetheless still a huge tourist draw. Most of Mexico City’s traditional cantinas are located around here too, such as the delightfully tacky Salon Tenampa on Plaza Garibaldi. It has an advantage over other cantinas in that it’s open until 3 a.m. (4 at the weekend). For trendy young things there are a few outdoor clubs dotted around too.
