Both political cartoons from the time of the Revolution and the work of contemporary artists from around South America are displayed at the Museo de la Caricatura. A rickety old room houses a large collection of sketches showing Porfirio Díaz et al bullying the downtrodden populace. Explanations are in Spanish which might go over the heads of those without a Ph.d. in Mexican history. A lot more rewarding are the more modern political satirical drawings, such as those of disgraced ex-president Carlos Salinas de Gortari with “For Sale” signs on his head, Charles and Camilla and Che Guevara with his enormous cigar. Most of the more modern exhibitions have English explanations too. The museum is small but the collection vibrant and interesting. They also run cartoon and art classes.
