This area was formed in the Aztec era for produce growth but now the waterways are lined with gardens and trees, as well as some ugly concrete buildings, and filled with brightly colored boats. It is a bit out the way but it is worth heading south from the center to take a look at the explosion of color created by the highly decorated punts in the different harbors even if a trip on the ancient canals may be outside your allotted budget. Try the weekends if you want to see the place buzzing or go during the week for some peace and quiet.
