The rooftop terrace of Hostal Moneda is not only a pleasant place to eat your free breakfast (coffee, juice, pancakes, fruit, eggs, sometimes ham) or dinner (usually pasta, vegetables, soup), but it is also a lovely place to gaze over the rooftops of the buildings surrounding the Z贸calo as you sip a beer from the bar or check your e-mail on three computers there.
Owned by the same people who run Hostel Amigo, Hostal Moneda has the advantage of location, being just a block away from the Z贸calo. The dorm beds are fairly comfortable, and the suite bathrooms are convenient. The dorm rooms have large, deep lockers, but you need to provide your own lock. On the first floor is a modest "library" and more computers with free Internet. No curfew.
