Pueblo Fantasmo

Location:
Real de Catorce, Mexico

History, Historical Building, Ruin

By Will Gray

Head past the tourist agency from the Plaza Hidalgo and the road will take you directly on a 40 minute uphill stroll from town where you will find an old mining town abandoned around 300 years ago. More of a ruin than a ghost town, most of the stone buildings have crumbled to leave just outer walls but the church still stands (albeit roofless) as does a tower further up the hill. Explore the cactus-filled area as you wish, but watch out for the open face of the old silver mine - drop a stone in to see how deep it is.

Getting There
Straight along Constitution avenue, 40 minutes east of town
