This is an excellent day walk or half-day cycle from town as it takes you through unique communities and unusual scenery. The whole area is full of Tarahumara people, who live in caves or wood houses, and there are good opportunities to see their bright traditional dress. Natural sites of bizarre rock formations include the Valle de las Ranas (Valley of the Frogs), Valle de los Hongos (Valley of the mushrooms) and, furthest away but worth the trek, Valle de los Monjes (also called Valley of the Gods or, in Tarahumara the Valley of the Erect Penises). At the far end of the park is Lago Arareko, which at first glimpse looks like a pleasure lake but explored further is much more untouched and picturesque.
