There’s nothing ciudad-like about Ciudad Cuauhtémoc. This dusty pueblo of just over 2000 inhabitants exists as the southern terminus of the Interamericana (Pan-American) highway that traverses the entire American continent. Despite its lofty international highway position though, there’s not much here apart from some crumbling houses, a few food stalls, the immigration office, the OCC bus terminal and several taxis/combis clamoring for your custom. Make sure you leave here before the border crossing closes at nightfall (around 6 or 7 p.m) as it’s not the type of place you want to be stuck overnight, although there are a couple of dodgy looking hotels for emergencies.
