Getting to the Lagos de Montebello

If you’re not coming on a pre-arranged tour, you can get here by public bus from Comitán. Combis leave from the main square every few minutes ($3). The entrance to the park is at Km 36, with the ticket booth about one kilometer further on. Most buses will stop to let you pay the entrance to the park ($1, open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m.) before continuing on to Laguna Bosque Azul. Once you’ve been dropped off in the main parking lot, there are dozens of signposted dirt tracks around the lake for independent exploring. Alternatively you could ask one of the local restaurants to arrange a guide for you. A local guide to show you around 12 lakes should cost around $35. Ask at El Restaurante Bosque Azul for details.
