Originally won over by the tropical patio dining and then the food, Café Alex has become a surefire hit for road weary travelers. Large, hearty and complete breakfasts are the big winners here. Whether you desire a healthy fruit, yogurt and granola dish or local Oaxaqueño cuisine, the variety is mind boggling. Each complete breakfast is served with your choice of either fresh cut fruit or orange juice, a large main course, a selection of sweet and savory breads (or tortillas) and a bottomless cup of good old American style coffee. Folks, this is the place to fuel your body up for a busy day of sightseeing. My two favorites are the pork steak and Mexican lasagna. If you are really fortunate you will dine on a morning when the owner lets her tropical birds out onto the patio for exercise. Ask for Jeanett. She is the best waitress in Oaxaca.
Lunch and dinner are also hearty and inexpensive. There is a wide variety of local favorites and some good old standby for the less than adventuresome. Menus are detailed and written in both Spanish and English. Highly recommended for a good, filling, and cheap meal.
