By Erin Helland

Within the expansive structure of Santo Domingo, which was originally a monastery, lays the Cultures of Oaxaca Museum. The museum has an impressive collection of archeological artifacts, many from the nearby ruins of Monte Albán. The museum exhibits, which run in order from past to present, outline the history of both Oaxaca and Mexico. It does an excellent job of helping its visitors better understand the complex history and cultures associated with Oaxaca. The museum is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM. On Sundays admittance into the museum is free. Audio tours are offered in both Spanish and English.

Traveler Reviews of Cultures of Oaxaca Museum

Great Museum

Rating: 100%

I went to this museum last year during my trip to Oaxaca. It was a definite highlight for me. I love learning about history, and there was no shortage at the cultural museum. The best part was seeing all the amazing gold artifacts from Monte Alban.
